International Mother Language Day

Here at the Endangered Alphabets Project, one of the most important days of the year is one that most people have never heard of: February 21, International Mother Language Day.
Born out of a movement in pre-independence Bangladesh, IMLD is the only global day that announces and demands that all peoples should have the right to speak, live, and conduct their lives in their traditional languages and scripts.
We have been doing Mother Tongue carvings, exhibitions, and talks for eight years. We invite you to help us carry the flag by buying and displaying one of our posters and/or other items of Endangered Alphabets merchandise, available at https://www.endangeredalphabets.com/endangered-alphabets-merchandise/.

This year, by the way, I’ll be the guest of honor in a virtual celebration of the day from 11 AM-1 PM EDT, and again on February 24th at 12:30 AM EDT in an expert panel on minority scripts—if you’re interested I can send you invitations.

Thanks.

Tim
